Freedom of association, intermediate bodies and politics: rereading Alexis de Tocqueville. Re-reading Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville emerges the centrality of the discourse on the freedom of association and the role of communities and intermediate bodies in contemporary political reflection. The current health crisis has caused some neostatalistic aspects to re-emerge but, at the same time, it has revealed the strength of social aggregations and their importance for the development of an effective and substantial democracy.
